"I think it will Thrill you. It may Shock you. It might even Horrify you."
Following from the success of Dracula, of the same year, comes Frankenstein; another horror B-movie classic. From the hunchback assistant to an ecstatic "Its Alive," Frankenstein is responsible for so much that the Horror genre has come to be known for. That being said, while I found myself enjoying this one more than Dracula, its only because it was more eccentric. Truthfully, I found myself laughing at the terribly over the top performances and poor dialogue. I still enjoyed myself watching it, the the atmosphere, the "fear" that is mentioned in the open monologue has all but evaportated.
Frankenstein was another big earner for Universal that ended up spawning a couple of sequels including Bride of Frankenstein and Son of Frankenstein. Something cool is that the machine that reanimates the monster has a Tesla Coil on it made by Nikola Tesla himself.
Another thing to note is that its the first fourth wall break I've seen since The Great Train Robbery (1903).
